KongKea Animation is a startup animation studio in Battambang, Cambodia, staffed by local youth. The team at KongKea have received training from NGO Phare Ponleu Selpak and experience working under their supervision on commercial contracts. They have now decided to start work on their own projects. Their first short, Mosquito In Dreaming, won best animated short at Cambodia’s CamboFest in 2009.
Kinyei has been working with this group for 4 months now, and has agreed to help them get off the ground with business planning, office space, mentoring, sourcing expert industry knowledge and, of course, networking. In June, the group leader, Phanith, was sponsored to attend the 2010 Mekong ICT for Development Camp in Chiang Mai Thailand where he was able to share his animation skills and learn from other participants and facilitators.
